Manuel Chrysoloras, Father of Kappa Sigma
Kappa Sigma is the world's oldest fraternal organization that is still in existence today. It was founded around the year 1400 in Bologna, Italy by a Greek scholar named Manuel Chrysoloras. Chrysoloras organized this secret society of students for mutual protection against the tyrant governor of the city, Baldassare Cossa, who sent his men to assault and rob the students of the University.

Unlike almost every college Fraternity that exists today, Kappa Sigma was founded out of necessity for the safety and protection of students where its secrecy was a matter of life or death. Through the centuries, the secrets and traditions of Kappa Sigma were nearly lost in time until the Fraternity's existence was preserved by coming to America.
